Lately, I’ve been getting this question a lot:
"So what do you think about Hyrox?"

It’s a fair question. With the rise of fitness events like Hyrox, DEKA, and even the long-lost glory days of Tough Mudder (RIP those ice baths), more and more people are looking for ways to test their fitness in new and exciting ways.

And that’s exactly what Hyrox is—a test of fitness.
CrossFit, on the other hand? It’s the training that gets you ready for it.

Let me explain.

CrossFit Is a Methodology

CrossFit isn’t just a sport. In fact, most people doing CrossFit will never step onto a competition floor—and that’s not the goal. The true heart of CrossFit is the methodology: constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity. It’s designed to prepare you for the unknown and unknowable, which is fancy talk for: “whatever life throws at you, you’ll be ready.”

Now yes, CrossFit also exists as a sport—what you see at the CrossFit Games or on YouTube highlight reels. That’s the top 1%. It’s the expression of the methodology taken to its competitive peak. Just like you can enjoy running without being a marathoner, you can do CrossFit for health, longevity, and performance without chasing podiums.

One day, it’s heavy squats.
The next, rope climbs and double-unders.
Then some rowing, odd objects, and maybe an assault bike for dessert.
It’s about building a broad, general, and inclusive fitness that carries over into everything else you do.

That’s why when someone decides to sign up for a 5K, a GoRuck, a Hyrox, or even a last-minute flag football game—they're not starting from scratch. They're already prepared. Because CrossFit has given them the tools.

Hyrox Is a Race

Now let’s talk about Hyrox. It’s an event. A test.
It’s the same every time:

  • 1,000m run
  • Functional station
  • Repeat 8 times

It’s beautifully standardized—like a track meet for fitness. You know exactly what to expect, and you train specifically for it. That’s what makes it fun for many people. It’s measurable. It’s repeatable. And it’s challenging.

But—and this is the key—it’s only testing a slice of the pie.

A big slice? Sure.
But it’s still not the whole pie.

Why CrossFit Prepares You for Hyrox (and Life)

Because CrossFit is varied, it doesn’t specialize. That’s the whole point.
When we see someone crush a Hyrox event after just doing CrossFit? That’s the system working. That’s proof that general physical preparedness (GPP) delivers results across a spectrum of real-world challenges.

CrossFit builds the engine, the durability, and the mental toughness you need to go out and tackle Hyrox, Spartan, Triathlon, or even that adult rec soccer league you forgot you signed up for.

You don’t have to pick a side.
Hyrox is a great test.
CrossFit is the best prep.

Want to do both? Awesome. We’ll help you.
Just don’t ask us to do another Tough Mudder. We still have flashbacks to the electric wires. 😅

Coach’sTip:
If you’ve got a Hyrox or similar event on your radar, talk to a coach. We can fine-tune your training to bridge the gap between GPP and specific prep—so you can show up ready and crush it.
